Kellie Kildahl:
Oil Paintings
“Kell Projects,” the title of my art practice, is about creating as much as projecting. On view, are oil paintings that come from a very internal space. Inspired by surroundings in Washington state, I seek to find connections between existing structures of identity and geological formations.
This oil painting portrays a view that looks down into the Coleman Glacier, seen from the Heliotrope ridge trail in Washington. It took place after the first dusting of snow in October of 2020.
I created these two paintings for the purpose of being printed onto a pair of custom skis in collaboration with Folsom Custom Skis in Denver, Colorado. https://www.folsomskis.com/graphics#FEATURED
The images feature the "fin" of Mount Shuksan in Washington as well as stills of rapid waves from the Nooksack river. This piece represents renewal in an active sense; to actively decide to be the person you want to be; to practically throw yourself into your own future.
A plein-air oil painting of Mount Shuksan from the Artist’s Point area of Mount Baker National Forest during the early summer.
A still life done in a painting style inspired by the Trompe-l'œil art technique, this image of large rusted scissors captures a darker side of a common tool. The object is intended to be figurative and alive.
